Summary:
The (APP) is a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner and a member of our hospitalist care team.
The Nocturnal APP has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of Inpatient care for the Hospitalist Team patients during the nights.
This position is ideal for APP's seeking to practice at the top of their license and desiring a high level of Autonomy with decision making.
The APP manages and provides acute care for our patients admitted to, consulted on, observed or any other means through the hospital as well as comprehensive patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with other services.
Our program currently is staffed with one Nocturnal APP at night.
We are looking to expand and add a second APP at night to complement the current team.
Job Duties:
Provides direct patient care for any patients admitted, observed, etc.
, in to the hospitalist Service for treatment.
Applies advanced professional practice knowledge and skills appropriate for Inpatient care setting.
Able to multitask between ED Admissions, answering floor calls and collaborating with ICU Team to trouble shoot critical issues at night.
(Back up Call supervising hospitalist and pulmonary critical care physician available over the phone) Be able to lead ACLS team during inpatient code Alerts (ED physician in-house available for intubation and emergency central lines.
Attend Rapid Response and Stroke Alerts ( Upmc Telemedicine Team available for overnight consults and supervision with Strokes) Communicates effectively, both verbally and in documentation.
Demonstrates critical thinking in all areas of professional practice.
Learns to incorporate acceptable standards of professional practice as well as health system's goals to improve patient safety, quality and satisfaction.
Formulates an independent plan of care and able to assess the Acuity of patients being admitted for proper disposition.
Demonstrates initiative and seeks formal and informal opportunities to improve clinical practice.
Seeks guidance and asks questions to continuously improve patient care and treatment protocols.
Qualifications Education Requirements:
CRNP:
oThe successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required oBSN, MSN is preferred PA:
oA graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required oBS or MS candidate is preferred Work
Experience:
oPast Experience in critical care areas (Medical or surgical) or a Critical Care fellowship is desirable.
oCentral line/Intubation skills are preferred but not required.
oAlternative experience may include experience in Nocturnal or High Acuity inpatient settings with desire and openness to learn new skills.
License/Certifications:
Current Pennsylvania Nursing License Current BLS, ACLS.
